Becoming a Preceptor

Thank you for your agreeing to precept an applicant to or current Intern in, the Priority Nutrition Care Distance Dietetic Internship. We request that you complete our Preceptor Information Form to which there is a link below. This is not an application to be a Preceptor or a contract, but merely a vehicle to gather information that our accreditor requires and it is the only PROOF we have that an applicant to our program actually has a Preceptor who has agreed to precept him or her.

If you have completed our form in the past, you do not need to complete it again, assuming your contact information has not changed. Please fill in your name and that of the applicant or current Intern for whom you have agreed to precept, so that we will know that you have agreed to precept a different Intern.

We request that you attach a resume and recent continuing education activity, as required by ACEND. The Continuing Education information may be a copy of your CDR logs, a brief list in a document or included on your resume.

Your Questions

We would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Our office number and email address are on our contact page.

All programs are guided by a set of competencies, promulgated by ACEND, the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which is a gate keeper for the USDE (United States Department of Education). Each program determines appropriate learning activities for its own Program to allow its Interns to demonstrate the achievement of the competencies, which are common to all programs.

We provide a syllabus for each rotation, with learning activities delineated, making them achievable in a variety of settings. YOU do not have to come up with activities for Priority Nutrition Care Interns. The activities have been developed by experienced RDs who are very familiar with activities in each type of rotation. The activities are generic enough that you may tailor them to meet not only the needs of the Interns but those of your site as well. There is a separate syllabus for each of the rotations, Clinical Nutrition, Food Service, Community, and the Elective and these are e-mailed, together with the Program Handbook to each preceptor approximately 30 days prior to the Intern's arrival at the site. We do not provide syllabi in advance of an applicant being accepted into our program.

Good News! CPEUs for Precepting

The Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) now awards continuing education credit for preceptors. Precepting will be included under the current Leadership Activity Type with a three (3) CPEU/year, fifteen (15) CPEUS per five-year recertification period maximum for Leadership and/or Precepting activities.

If you have completed Precepting for one of our Interns, please complete and email the required forms  to Internship@PriorityNutritionCare.com. We will review submitted forms quarterly (end of March, June, September, December) and return a signed verification to you for your records. You must have a previously submitted Preceptor Information Form (including the requested resume and continuing education) in order for us to complete the Verification form for CPEUs to be awarded. CPEU related forms can be found using the button below.

We have also included information regarding other CPEU opportunities at the link below.

Thank you.
