Becoming a Preceptor

Thank you for your agreeing to precept an applicant to or current Intern in the Priority Nutrition Care Distance Dietetic Internship. We request that you complete our Preceptor Confirmation Form to which there is a link below. This is not an application to be a Preceptor or a contract, but merely a vehicle to gather information that our accreditor requires and it is the only PROOF we have that an applicant to our program actually has a Preceptor who has agreed to precept them.

If you have completed our form in the past, we ask that you complete it again as some questions have changed slightly.

We request that you attach a resume and recent continuing education activity, as required by ACEND. The Continuing Education information may be a copy of your CDR logs, a brief list in a document or included on your resume.

Your Questions

We would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Our office number and email address are on the bottom of this page.  The preferred email address is Internship@PriorityNutritionCare.com.  We have also included some common questions on our FAQ page.

Competencies

All programs are guided by a set of competencies, promulgated by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) that is the accrediting agency for education programs preparing students for careers as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) or Nutrition and Dietetics Technicians, Registered (NDTRs). ACEND is an organizational unit of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Each accredited program determines appropriate learning activities for its own Program to allow its Interns to demonstrate the achievement of the competencies, which are common to all programs.

Syllabus

In order to ensure achievement of all competencies and to meet all ACEND standards by the end of the Internship, we provide one syllabus which is applicable to all rotations in professional practice work settings. In short, our Interns can do what you do, albeit at a preentry level and/or activities that would be helpful to the facility or your business. Some examples are listed on our About Rotations page. The curriculum has been developed by experienced RDNs who are very familiar with typical functions in each type of rotation. The syllabus will be e-mailed to each preceptor approximately 30 days prior to the Intern's arrival at the site. We do not provide syllabi in advance of an applicant being accepted into our program.

CPEUs for Precepting

The Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) now awards continuing education credit for preceptors. Precepting will be included under the current Leadership Activity Type with a three (3) CPEU/year, fifteen (15) CPEUS per five-year recertification period maximum for Leadership and/or Precepting activities.

We will email proof of the CEUs awarded shortly after the completion of each rotation.

We have also included information regarding other CPEU opportunities at the link below.

Thank you.
